Winchester
(same as 2003 blurb) To be in Winchester is to be bludgeoned with history, going back to when it was an Iron Age fort, then a Roman administrative center around 100 BCE. Of particular interest is King Alfred's Great Hall in Winchester Castle. On the wall hangs a "fake" round table, hung in 1463 and post-dating the legendary King Arthur by a good chunk, which is to say, 1000 years or so. Story has it that when the original table was on the wall, people would chip away parts of it for mementos. So it was hidden away somewhere in the nether regions and its place taken by the "fake". The original has never been found again.
