Inca Trail I
Back-packing the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was one of the biggest physical challenges of my life. I was 57 at the time and everyone else was in their 20's or 30's, so I knew I would be tail-end Charlie a lot of the time. We started at about 6000 feet and then had to negotiate the following passes: 14,400,14,200, and 14,000 before the descent into Machu Picchu at about 8000 feet. It took three days of hiking and then one day of exploring Machu Picchu.
