De Havilland Chipmunk
The de Havilland DHC-1 Chipmunk went into service in 1946 and eventually 1283 were produced. A two seat trainer, it was finally phased out in Canada 1996. There are still hundreds of them operational world-wide, including six in the Portuguese Air Force. I was originally set to fly in the the Tiger Moth, the immediate predecessor to the Chipmunk, but the gusty weather interfered and the Chipmunk is more stable in rowdy weather.
