Otorongo
The Otorongo camp-site provided us with an opportunity to explore the jungle a bit. Mostly we saw a lot of flora and few fauna. The log spanning the gulch provided an adrenaline rush for some of the guys. The last picture is a tapir foot-print in the mud, the best we could do in terms of viewing critters. It was, of course, quite hot and humid and consequently we were all feeling rather sticky. The leader said this would be a good place to go swimming in the river. Naturally out first thoughts were of pirhanas. He said that there were in fact pirhanas in the river but that they were harmless. The other guys took off everything but their underwear and proceeded into the water. I felt especially grungy, took off my underwear as well, and waded out to chest deep. Immediately something began nibbling at part of me where nibbling is generally reserved for human females. Pirhana!?!?!?!?! After I had sped out of the water and observed that the others remained unmolested, I reasoned that underwear afforded good protection from whatever little fish were nibbling. So I put on my underwear and ventured back into the water. It was uneventful.
